In the summer of 1959, Lieutenant Colonel William Rankin was flying over a thunderhead (about 45,000 feet in the air), when his airplane’s engine made a loud noise and the RPMs fell to zero. He was forced to eject himself from the airplane, and he fell for 45 minutes through a cumulonimbus thunderstorm cloud.
Falling through a storm cloud. How poetic.
