Chipotle has been sued for failure to be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant, as a customer who uses a wheelchair was unable to see the food preparation, denying him the “Chipotle Experience”. The case against the company was upheld in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Chipotle’s appeal, leaving the 9th’s Circuit ruling intact. Chipotle has, “an official disability policy of bringing ingredients to the tables of diners with disabilities and doing tableside preparation.”

Chipotle is retrofitting restaurants affected by the ruling, and incorporating the new design into new restaurants.

  • Clarence Ray Allen requested buffalo steak, Kentucky Fried Chicken, sugar-free pecan pie and sugar-free black walnut ice cream.
  • Donald Snyder gained over 150 pounds in an unsuccessful bid to be unable to fit in the electric chair. He requested pork chops and eggs “and plenty of ‘em!”.
  • James Edward Smith requested a lump of dirt, which was denied. He settled for a small cup of yogurt.
  • John Albert Taylor requested pizzas “with everything.”
  • Victor Feguer requested a single olive with the pit still in.

The saltine cracker challenge is a competition in which a person has 60 seconds to eat 6 saltines (also known as soda crackers), without drinking anything; all the crumbs must be eaten too.

Although the challenge sounds easy, it is actually very difficult, because the crackers quickly exhaust the saliva in one’s mouth. Even though six saltines can fit in one’s mouth all at the same time, and a minute is plenty of time to chew, the resulting mess of crumbs resists swallowing.

A close relative is the challenge to eat a teaspoon of cinnamon. Again, this is a small amount of a familiar food, but it dissolves poorly in the mouth, making the powder hard to swallow.
